Louisa County schools report addition nearly complete, project 73% done and on budget

Staff member A, a staff member, told the Louisa County Public Schools Board the addition and associated work remain on schedule and on budget.
“The roof is 95% complete,” Staff member A said. “We have currently spent $15,675,979.40 on the addition project. That represents 60.3% of our budget is spent. We have completed 73.47%.”
Board members were shown photographs and a progress report that, according to staff, show rooftop equipment installation, classroom finishing, ceiling-grid installation and retrofitting of existing rooms into science classrooms. Staff member A described openings created for construction that will be closed when work finishes and said work crews are preparing a connection from the original building to the addition.
The presentation also covered mechanical and ventilation work: staff said new variable air DRF/NOAS units that will provide conditioned fresh air are being installed, and a new rooftop unit will serve the addition. Staff member A said a single small change order was required to adjust power supply for irrigation serving the new fields.
Site work for the district’s career and technical education (CTE) center was discussed as part of the construction update. According to staff, civil contractors have begun phase one of work to create a new parking lot to replace spaces that will be lost when a greenhouse lot is removed; staff said the lot has a target completion date of Aug. 1.
The presentation included photos of Room 904 being converted from an old art space into a science classroom and showed demolition between Rooms 718, 720 and 722 to create two new science classrooms with a prep room between them. Staff emphasized the districts’ intent to finish primary trades and finishing work before the start of school.
No formal vote was required on the construction report; board discussion focused on scheduling a site tour and confirming timelines. A board member asked whether another tour should be scheduled; the board indicated they did not want to delay the work and instructed staff to advise when tours would be convenient.
The district provided a list of payments and six R&R (repair and maintenance) payments in the board packet, and staff said documentation for those payments is in the public folder.
Board members did not raise objections to the status report. The board moved on to other agenda items after the update.
