Norfolk County's director reported on June 4 that preliminary work on closing fiscal year 2025 indicates the county is likely to finish the year with a surplus, and provided several operational updates including a facilities move, short-term-disability enrollment and a revised electric-vehicle charging proposal.
Director Kron told commissioners that department heads received instructions to submit year-end reserve items by noon on June 25 as part of the FY25 close; county finance staff has monitored spending and the director described current projections as "favorable," though he said he would not release a final number at this time. The surplus, if finalized, would be available for appropriation in the FY26 budget as required by general law.
On facilities, Kron said the county's disaster-recovery room work is progressing at the Agricultural High School location. He reported that electrical work is complete, a painter has begun finishing touches and county IT will move materials from 614 High Street to the Aggie (Betty Duquette Building, second floor) before the end of the month.
Human-resources notices: the director reminded employees that Boston Mutual short-term-disability enrollment is open from June 3 to June 13 with vendor sessions available for one-on-one consultations on specified dates and at county locations.
On electric-vehicle infrastructure, the director said the county requested revised proposals and value-engineered the plan with the vendor; the number of chargers in the proposal dropped from 31 to 22. He said the county supplied electric-bill data and asked the vendor to include performance-based cost profiles; once a revised proposal is returned staff will present it to the commissioners for a formal vote and, if approved, the county will file with the state as required.
Kron also asked commissioners to consider summer meeting scheduling and noted commissioners are expected to attend the following evening's Agricultural High School graduation. No formal votes were taken on the EV charging plan or the FY26 budget appropriation during this session.
