District reports progress recruiting bus drivers and selects new routing software

District transportation officials reported progress on recruiting bus drivers after a February job fair that drew more than 70 attendees and produced newly certified drivers and additional drivers in training.
Presenters said the district recorded seven newly certified drivers and 15 drivers in training following intensified recruitment; the goal established in February was to hire 24 drivers by Memorial Day. Officials described the increases as a meaningful improvement in staffing capacity.
The transportation committee also told the board it has selected new routing and planning software and plans to replace a program that had not been updated in nearly a decade. Presenters said the old routing database caused workflow inefficiencies and increased error risk because of poor integration with student information systems; the new product will also include a parent app.
Committee members named in the presentation included Damon Wynn, Dion Johnson and Mr. Bogos, who the district acknowledged for committee participation.
