Pleasanton Library launches “Level Up at Your Library” summer reading program and expands story times

Library staff previewed the library’s 2025 summer reading program at the June 5 commission meeting, describing a theme, event slate and outreach designed to boost reading over the summer months.
The program theme this year is “Level Up at Your Library,” staff said, and will include separate reading logs for babies, children, teens and adults, stepwise rewards to encourage continued participation, performer events and workshops for teens. “We are more excited than ever for this year's theme,” staff said.
Staff described in‑library decorations, a continuing teen advocates volunteer program, and partnerships with local businesses for small incentives (the Friends of the Library provide a free book; 5 Little Monkeys bookstore contributed $5 coupons). The program will include baby, toddler, family and monthly sensory story times — sensory story time is offered before opening to create a quieter environment for families who prefer it, staff said.
Events highlighted for the season included rhythm/music performances that drew dozens of attendees during the first shows, an illustrator workshop for teens by Oliver Chin and an adults’ film club and trivia night at the Firehouse Arts Center. Staff said this is the first summer with story times offered across all summer weeks and that the library is encouraging commissioners to attend outreach events.
The commission thanked staff for displays and programming and asked about registration capacity for popular sessions; staff said capacity figures vary by program and that registration and wait lists are used when necessary.
