Julian Smith said Brunswick Villa, built during World War II to house shipyard workers and navy families, is in the county (not the city) and has been “pretty much ignored” by local government. Smith said recent sewer service extensions by the Joint Water and Sewer Commission left “quite a mess” at properties and that residents have unresolved landscaping and clearing issues following the installation.
Smith also said a community recreation parcel originally set aside for Brunswick Villa was later transferred to the Boys & Girls Club, leaving Villa residents without direct access to that facility. He said code enforcement has not consistently enforced setbacks and that some structures were built on county land.
Smith asked the commission to “pay attention to Brunswick Villa” and help residents with improvements. He noted media coverage of the neighborhood’s post-construction issues and said the county commissioner representing the area was not present.
The remarks were made during the public comment period; no formal county action or motion followed at the meeting.
