Commission hears updates on Patel site road work and Main Street project

Commission staff reported that road work at the Patel site continues and that construction observation is underway as contractors finish the road; staff said the road work should make more visible progress in the next six to eight weeks.
A staff member said Banning Engineering is providing construction observation and that inspector Mike McCreery has been going door-to-door along the Main Street project route to discuss right-of-entry with homeowners. The presenter said crews have raised concerns about construction vehicles “jumping the curb” and other activities that could damage the new road surface and that staff are monitoring those risks.
On the Main Street program, staff said the town is waiting for design files from Indiana American Water’s design team (transcript reference: “Indian American waters design team”); staff added they have requested contract-related documents from Indiana American Water and expect to coordinate service relocations and other utility work this summer. Several utility companies have received approval to relocate facilities ahead of the project, and survey staking with wood stakes and colored ribbon will be installed along the route.
At East Main, contractor Electric Plus reported that pull wire for the new lighting should arrive this week, an enclosure cabinet is expected within one to two weeks, and after installation AES will be scheduled to energize the cabinet. Staff warned work near the railroad will require continued coordination with railroad officials.
Why it matters: those items represent major public works and utility coordination that affect traffic, property access and the schedule for visible improvements on Main Street and at the Patel development.
