Village hall estimate rises to $8.7 million; committee told architect fee increase will be decided in June

Committee members heard updates on the village hall project and rising construction cost estimates during the June 4 meeting of the Finance Advisory and Enhancement Committee.
Committee member Jay Langfeld told members that earlier project estimates of about $7.5 million have increased in current project documents to $8.7 million. He said the village has not yet received final bids and that bid results will determine the actual cost. Langfeld also reported a dispute with the architectural firm over additional fees for construction documents and bidding-phase services. The architect first requested roughly $104,000 in additional fees and later revised that to about $86,000; the committee was told the Village Board will decide the contract adjustment in June.
Members noted the village has already committed money for land acquisition and studies. A committee member said the village paid about $495,000 for land and additional planning expenses; Langfeld said the village has invested “hundreds and hundreds of hours” and significant expenditures to date. Committee members discussed pursuing grants for solar and other sustainability features and emphasized that interest-rate and material-price volatility make final cost estimates uncertain until bids are returned.
No binding contract amendments were approved at the committee meeting. Committee members said they will continue to seek grant opportunities and to prepare for capital budgeting decisions at the village-board level.
