Carmel Fire Department highlights youth camps, museum tours and 125th anniversary plans

A Carmel Fire Department representative updated neighbors on youth programming, Safety Day and plans for the department’s 125th anniversary at a Carmel Neighborhood Association meeting.

Captain John Moriarty (Carmel Fire Department) said the department is hosting “Firefighters for a Day” camps open to 7- to 12‑year-olds this week, with camps running daily and finishing with a water-ball contest. The department also plans a Safety Day event on Aug. 16 and will host anniversary celebrations marking the fire department’s 125th year.

Moriarty described museum tours and the department’s historical artifacts, including an early hand pump kept at the museum and photographs of past bucket-brigade crews. “I just wanna update you on some of the things going on with the fire department. Firefighters for a day camps going on right now,” he said, and invited residents to arrange weekday tours of the fire-museum exhibits and a related interactive family education area.

Moriarty noted the department’s community outreach table at the meeting and encouraged neighborhood groups, families and school groups to schedule visits. He said the department also engages in community events such as parades and will be grand marshal in this year’s Carmel Fest parade related to the anniversary.

The update included offers to host groups for museum tours and family education sessions and a general request that residents visit the department table at community events for more information.
