Pewaukee — During the council’s public-comment period a resident asked the council to tighten draft language in a proposed ordinance regulating backyard chickens so enclosures must be set back from neighboring houses.
The resident, who identified her address as N23W27193 Shelly Lynn Drive, said the existing ordinance text requires enclosures "shall be located within the rear yard only" but asked the city to amend the wording to read "enclosures shall be located in rear of lot set back from any houses." She told the council a neighbor on a 2.23-acre lot had built a coop "within feet of the back of his house and right up by our house and next to our water well," and asked for clearer language "to minimize odor, noise, rodents, and waste."
The mayor acknowledged the comment and said the city was reviewing the matter. The speaker said the city was reviewing whether a permit had been obtained and that she had provided a letter to staff.
The comment did not prompt follow-up action recorded during the meeting; the mayor closed public comment and the council moved on to other agenda items.
