The Beacon City Council adjourned its public hearing on proposed local-law changes to accessory dwelling unit (ADU) regulations to June 2 after receiving a planning-board report with technical suggestions.
Nick, representing the city’s legal/administrative office, told the council the planning board had provided multiple comments on definitions and on whether certain criteria should be expressed as percentages or square footage. The planning board supports many concepts in the draft local law but asked for further drafting work before the council adopts a final text.
Staff said the county planning board reviewed the measure and had no specific comments beyond those of local concern. Councilmembers directed staff to incorporate planning-board edits, prepare a revised local law and present it at the adjourned public hearing on June 2.
A councilmember noted that the May 13 planning-board meeting recorded online includes discussion of the ADU topic and suggested residents consult that audio and the memo in the council packet for additional context. The adjournment motion was made and seconded by councilmembers Molly and Pam and carried unanimously.
