Constellation and county fund Oswego summer concerts; council approves multiple park event permits

The city accepted $25,000 from Constellation to support concerts at Veterans Stage and $3,705 from Oswego County Tourism to support programming at Water Street Square. Mayor (unnamed in the record) told the committee “Constellation has offered to pick up the tab,” and asked members to approve the sponsorship so organizers could publish the entertainment list.
Committee members also approved permits for several community events: an Amy Nelson teddy bear picnic at Raybeck Park (June 19, 10 a.m.–11 a.m.), the Swiggle Minor Hockey Association 5K walk/run at Britebeck Park (June 1, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.), and a Hooter Crew breast cancer awareness walk at Brayback Park Pavilion (Oct. 5, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.). Organizers of the breast cancer walk said last year’s event drew about 150 people and directed proceeds to local support organizations; co‑founder Allison Griffin said “breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women” and emphasized the event’s local assistance for costs such as parking and gas.
The musicians union also received city permission to continue its Sunset Concert Series at Britebeck Park, scheduled June 25 through Aug. 20 (with the Harbor Fest week as an exception). Annette Halbert, president of the local musicians’ union, thanked the city for long‑term support of the series.
Councilors voted to accept the sponsorships and granted the permits by voice votes during the meeting. The mayor indicated organizers can publish the entertainment lineup once approvals are finalized.
The sponsorships reduce the city’s direct expense for the multi‑week concert program and allow staff to finalize bookings and public notices; organizers said the events typically include vendors, community resources and fundraising elements.
