Committee authorizes $18,000 amendment to cover new safety-boot allowance in union contract

Commissioner Craig Rebbior presented the request, saying the allowance provides $200 per employee for safety shoes to be worn at work and that the item was not previously budgeted. "Safety boot allowance is a new item in the SEIU 200 united contract this year. $200 per employee for safety shoes to be worn at work," Rebbior said.
Committee members moved and approved the budget amendment by recorded vote and the chamberlain was authorized to make the appropriation to the garage materials and supplies account.
Why it matters: The amendment implements a contract provision and ensures the city can reimburse or otherwise provide the negotiated $200 allowance to eligible employees.
