Board sets resident rental fees for new senior center and rooftop; nonresident rooftop fee to be compared

The City of West Miami Recreation Advisory Board approved proposed resident rental fees for the new senior center and rooftop event spaces and directed staff to compile market comparisons before finalizing nonresident rooftop rates.

Jenny, a staff member, presented recommended rental fees for a 2,500-square-foot first-floor senior/event space and a 3,500-square-foot rooftop venue. The board approved a resident four‑hour rental fee of $650 for the senior space and a resident four‑hour rooftop fee of $1,000. Jenny said those figures reflect staffing, cleanup and facility maintenance costs.

Board members compared the proposed fees with existing local spaces. Jenny referenced the Rebecca Sosa facility and current rec-center fees to show the new rates were in a comparable range; the board discussed deposits and cleanup fees as typical practice. The advisory board voted unanimously to approve the resident fee amounts and to set the rooftop nonresident fee for later adjustment after staff gathers local comparisons — Jenny said she would research comparable venues and report back.

The board noted the rooftop could command higher nonresident rates depending on finish and privacy; members suggested $1,800 could be reasonable but agreed to collect formal comparisons before finalizing that number. Staff said the $1,000 and $650 resident fees apply to four‑hour rental blocks and that deposits and cleanup fees would be applied according to standard rental policy.
