City seeks $40,000 from opioid funds to support EMS supplies and equipment testing

Hoover staff asked the City Council to amend the fiscal-year budget to add $40,000 from opioid-related funds to cover additional emergency medical services supplies and equipment testing and maintenance. Chief Bentley presented the amendment and said staff believes this is an appropriate use of opioid funds to carry EMS operations through the remainder of the budget year.
"We would like to request $40,000 for an opioid funding to do this, and, we think this is appropriate use of the opioid opioid money," Chief Bentley said. No council questions were raised during the work session. Staff characterized the request as necessary to get the city "through the end of this budget year." The council did not take formal action in the work session; the item is slated for consideration on the regular meeting agenda.
