Council approves year-end appropriations for police, fire, airport and parks

The Provo City Council approved five year-end appropriations Tuesday as part of the fiscal-year reconciliation process for accounts ending June 30, 2025.
Budget Analyst Andrea Wright presented five requests the council had previously reviewed during the May 20 work meeting. The first recommendation was an appropriation of $267,000 in the general fund for police and fire wages; Wright said the airport will reimburse the general fund for certain payroll costs. A second recommendation formalized that reimbursement process. Wright also proposed $80,000 for police personnel protective equipment and ammunition expenses; $75,000 for unanticipated utility costs in park maintenance; and $20,000 for unanticipated indigent defense costs in the general fund.
Councilors asked no substantive questions and moved to a roll-call vote. The council approved the appropriations 6-0 with Councilor McKay excused. Staff indicated the airport will reimburse the general fund for the payroll allocation and that the appropriations are part of standard year-end reconciliation.
