The Provo City Council approved two separate resolutions Tuesday to finance equipment for municipal golf operations: a five-year lease with PNC Bank for 80 electric golf carts and a five-year lease with Zions Bank to replace aging maintenance equipment and accelerate an all-electric turf fleet.
Golf Manager Brett Watson told the council the PNC lease allows the course to shift from gas carts to electric carts at no extra cost in the first year, with gradual payments over five years. “This allows the golf course to transition from our fleet of gas carts into a new fleet of electric carts at no extra cost in the first year and then a slow incremental change over the next five years,” Watson said.
Watson and staff said the Zions Bank lease will replace aging maintenance equipment and support a faster transition to electric maintenance units; Watson said staff believe they can complete the shift in fewer than five years and eventually move toward autonomous, fully electric turf equipment. Councilor Hanley welcomed the electrification for its air-quality and customer-service benefits, calling the change a “positive step.”
Both resolutions passed on roll-call votes 6-0 with Councilor McKay excused. No public comment was offered on the items.
