Council names longtime water superintendent Ryan York to Metropolitan Water Board

Provo City Council voted 6-0 to appoint Ryan York, the city’s water superintendent of 28 years, as the city’s designee to the Metropolitan Water Board.
The Provo City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Ryan York as Provo’s representative to the Metropolitan Water Board, the regional entity responsible for water supply and distribution coordination.
Public Works Director Gordon Haight recommended York to the council and noted York’s 28 years with the city and his current role as water superintendent. “He’s been with the city for 28 years. He’s currently our water superintendent that oversees our distribution and supply of our water system,” Haight said, adding that York has been a key figure in maintaining the city’s water system.
York told the council he wanted to serve on the board to continue the work of his predecessor and noted his familiarity with board business from serving as a liaison. “My predecessor who taught me everything I know about water was on the Metro board, for a number of years… I was happy to fill it,” York said.
Councilors asked no substantive policy questions and moved to a roll-call vote. The council recorded unanimous support (6-0, Councilor McKay excused) to approve the resolution designating York as the city’s board member.
