RSU 5’s facilities team updated the board June 4 on a phase‑1 energy audit and planned life‑safety projects, and flagged ongoing community interest in repairing the Freeport High School tennis courts.
Kelly, an RSU 5 administrator who presented the facilities summary, said the district completed an energy audit with a prioritized list of projects. Planned work includes boiler replacement at Freeport High School, LED lighting upgrades, fire‑panel and door replacements and other life‑safety measures. The district expects significant summer work by technology and facilities staff to address safety projects.
The board also discussed continued public requests to repair the high‑school tennis courts. Kelly said the facilities committee reviewed preliminary estimates and that engineering work is needed to scope repairs and produce firm bids. “We really do need to get some engineering done to sort of nail down how much work actually needs to be done before we can get a hard estimate or a bid,” she said.
Why it matters: The energy‑audit follow‑up and life‑safety projects affect building operation, safety, and long‑term maintenance budgets. Tennis‑court repairs have public‑use and extracurricular implications and may require engineering and capital planning.
Next steps
Facilities staff plan to proceed with the life‑safety work this summer where feasible; the tennis courts will need additional engineering and a subsequent decision point on funding and scheduling. The facilities report and estimates will inform future finance and capital planning discussions.
