Council approves Hewitt's FY25–26 assessment to Waco-McLennan County Public Health District

City staff explained the district provides restaurant inspections, epidemiological services, public health nursing, immunizations and sexually transmitted infection services for municipalities in McLennan County. The amended agreement before the council sets Hewitt’s contribution at $4.05 per person based on a population figure of 16,026, which the presenter said “translates basically into an annual cost of $64,905.30.”
The presenter noted the district adopted a multi-year increase schedule and the assessment is expected to reach $4.75 per person in the October 2027–September 2028 period under the district’s planned increases. Councilmember Dr. Bruce moved approval of the funding assessment; Councilmember Turner seconded, and the motion carried 5-0.
No amendments or alternate funding sources were proposed during the discussion.
