The Bear Valley Unified School District Board of Education approved multiple personnel appointments and district items, voting unanimously to accept hires and to ratify a classified employee contract.
Votes taken on the consent calendar and individual personnel items included motions to approve appointments and were recorded as unanimous (“Aye. None opposed”). Appointments approved included Chris Casino as assistant principal at Big Bear High School, Justin Ross as assistant principal at Big Bear Middle School, and Danielle Morris as dean of students at Baldwin Lane. The board also approved several new certificated and classified hires introduced during the meeting: Nicole Nitkin (special education teacher, Baldwin Lane Elementary), Vanessa Overbeck (special education teacher, North Shore Elementary), Brian Smith (special education teacher, Big Bear Middle School), and Juana (Juana Saldivar) as a health aide at North Shore.
The board also moved and approved the consolidated application for federal funding and ratified a classified employees contract; both motions passed with unanimous voice votes. Transportation policy handbooks (first reading) and other personnel job descriptions were also placed on the agenda and moved forward.
Chris Casino briefly addressed the board after his approval, saying, “I feel like everything I am, who I am as a person, belongs with Big Bear,” and thanked the district for the opportunity. Appointments will take effect as listed in the personnel packets; no dissenting votes were recorded.
