Commission selects blue snowflake lighting for holiday street-pole decorations

Community Service Director Stewart (Stuart) Cruz told commissioners that five vendors responded to a recent invitation to bid and that the selection committee recommended the incumbent vendor (identified in the procurement record) as the best-qualified bidder. Staff said the contract amount is $23,500 per year for a three-year term to install decorative lighting on approximately one-third of the city’s roughly 94 poles; the decorations would complement the city’s existing holiday banners on adjacent poles.
Commissioners reviewed two sample designs displayed during the meeting and each indicated a preference for the blue snowflake. A motion to approve the blue snowflake design and the contract carried 5-0.
Staff noted the city has electrical outlets on most but not all poles and said staff would investigate power availability and implementation logistics before installation.
