Commission adopts ordinance banning overnight parking on city property

The Daytona Beach Shores City Commission on June 3 adopted Ordinance 2025-07 to prohibit overnight parking on city-owned property without prior city approval.
Service Director Stuart Cruz read staff’s recommendation and explained the ordinance is intended to address recurring overnight parking at City Hall and the community center that has disrupted planned events. Cruz said the ordinance “would make it illegal to park overnight without prior city approval and also enable the city to have a third party vendor tow the vehicles.”
The ordinance was presented in its second reading. No public speakers asked to comment during the hearing. The commission voted 5-0 to adopt the ordinance.
Ending: The code amendment adds a new section to Chapter 22 (parking regulations) to permit impoundment under specified conditions; staff will follow up on signage and enforcement implementation.
