The Wiseburn Unified School District Board of Trustees approved three agreements for the SLC relocation project at a special meeting on June 2, voting 4-0 to award contracts funded by Measure EE bond funds.
The approvals cover: an agreement naming Core Engineering and Testing Inc. as the lab of record; the award of bid No. 2025-11 for construction work to JR Universal Construction Inc. (through DaVinci Connect); and an agreement naming Pringle Group as inspector of record. The board took the three items as a single motion and approved them unanimously.
The actions were returned to the agenda after being removed earlier because the district had not yet received Division of the State Architect (DSA) approval. Nelson, a board member who joined the meeting by phone, said the items were pulled from a prior agenda when DSA approval was pending and that the district brought them back once the approval was received so the district could shorten contingency plans for students affected by the relocation.
District staff described contingency arrangements for students during the work. Staff said some Futures program students are expected to join the Futures Plus program through the summer and possibly into the first weeks of the school year. For SLC students the district said one option under consideration is temporary placement at the middle school in a small room setup with outdoor access; staff said a firmer plan should be ready by the next board meeting.
Board member Neil moved to approve items 5.1–5.3; Michelle seconded. The board clerk confirmed the motion carried 4-0.
The board noted the contracts will be paid from Measure EE bond funds. Staff said returning the items to the agenda now — rather than waiting for the next regular meeting — could shorten the length of time a contingency is needed by about five to seven days, which may reduce scheduling and potential contractor cost pressures if mobilization were already under way.
The special meeting began at 4:32 p.m. and adjourned after the approvals. The district indicated it will provide a more detailed update on the relocation and student placement options at its next regular meeting.
