Board members raised logistical concerns for July 24: Port Silken Park pavilion access, ongoing road work near the pavilion, and difficulties for families traveling from neighborhoods not on a single consolidated bus route. Carrie and other members said transportation to the pavilion was limited for past events and suggested either selecting a more accessible location on a bus line or using a short shuttle from main stops to the pavilion.
The group discussed partnering with Pierce Transit and local youth-serving organizations (YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Clover Park School District). Members suggested scheduling the event near the Leaders of Change presentations so student groups and families could attend both: Leaders of Change presentations are scheduled for July 31, with some youth programming during June 23'July 31 placements at Harrison Prep and Clover Park High School.
Timing and format: board members proposed an afternoon event that overlaps lunch (1 p.m. to 3 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) to keep participants active; food provision and prize incentives were seen as important to attendance. Members said they will check pavilion availability with parks staff (Nikki) and coordinate outreach to summer programs and Leaders of Change to recruit participants.
