Committee votes to forward S2 planned-development standards for Park Synagogue site to full council

The Planning & Development Committee on June 4 voted to forward an ordinance establishing S2 planned-development standards for the Park Synagogue campus to the full City Council for final consideration.

City planning staff told the committee the S2 plan is designed to preserve the campus character and the historic synagogue while allowing limited new development, and reminded members that the planning commission had already reviewed and recommended the standards. “The S2 plan development is to combine that sustainable development of maintaining that campus life setting,” staff said during the presentation.

The committee’s referral matters because the S2 plan sets site-specific zoning rules that will govern how and where buildings may be built on parcels A, B and C of the campus. Under the proposed standards: Parcel A (near Mayfield Road) would be allowed up to 29 dwelling units per acre (a maximum of 361 dwelling units across 12.47 acres); Parcel B (the historic synagogue parcel) would be limited to 4 units per acre (maximum 30 units); and Parcel C (near…
