Parks director says Green Bay faces shortfall of 19 lifeguards; certification class expected to fill gap

Director (Parks Department) said the department is “fully staffed, for the most part” but acknowledged the shortfall of 19 lifeguards. He warned that the first opening weekend and the first days of the pool season could be challenging and that “there's a potential we may have to keep Joannie shut down or 1 of the pools shut down for lack of lifeguards,” although he said the shortfall should be temporary once the June 9 class is complete.
This report was provided to the commission as information; no formal action was taken. Commissioners asked about staffing and expressed support for recruitment efforts and training.
