MSD Southwest Allen County Schools staff presented proposed updates to the noncertified handbook intended to align leave and insurance benefits across noncertified job classes.
JR Ankenbrook explained the handbook changes recommended for fiscal 2026 would add personal illness and personal business days where some positions currently have none and others have between two and seven. The proposed policy would prorate leave amounts to employees’ work schedules.
Ankenbrook also proposed adding dental and vision insurance for employees who already receive medical coverage. He described the incremental cost as small and said the change is designed to provide more complete ancillary benefits for noncertified staff. Some one‑time adjustments for the current school year were also noted.
Ankenbrook characterized the revisions as the result of an HR audit and work to provide more equitable benefits for noncertified employees; trustees did not take formal action on the item at this meeting. The district will include the recommended handbook language and cost details in the board packet for future action.
