Medical Lake presents 6-year transportation improvement program and recent TIB awards

City staff presented a draft six-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) to the Medical Lake City Council on June 3 and held a public hearing; staff said they will prepare a resolution for adoption at the June 17 meeting.
Public works and planning staff described recent grant awards and projects including a roughly $750,000 full-depth reclamation and sidewalk project on Barker Street (awarded February 2023), a nearly $1.2 million resurfacing award for multiple north–south streets (described as “project red town,” awarded February 2024), an additional grant of about $1.4 million to resurface more than eight miles of roadway this coming summer, and a roughly $2.3 million TIB award to enhance active transportation along LaFayette Street as part of the Complete Streets project.
Staff also noted targeted repairs related to fire-recovery work on streets damaged during fire response and said preservation techniques such as scrub seal would not be sufficient for those roads; some streets will require removal and replacement of pavement or overlays, and staff will seek FEMA reimbursement where appropriate. The draft TIP includes planned intersection work on State Route 902 at Stanley and Brooks and a LaFayette Street project that may include a roundabout.
No speakers asked to testify at the hearing and the council closed the hearing; staff will prepare a resolution and bring it back for adoption on June 17. An online commenter later asked about scheduling for east–west scrub-seal work; staff said scrub-seal work is scheduled for this summer with anticipated mobilization in July but that exact dates are pending.
