City promotes hurricane workshop and safety fair with giveaways, meteorologist speaking

A speaker identified as Azel Carter described the event schedule: the Convention Center doors open at 10 a.m., and a meteorologist from Channel 13, Elise Smith, will present hurricane predictions at 12:30 p.m. The workshop will include safety information, door prizes, free lunch and a bike giveaway; Carter said four donated generators will be given away during presentations.
Carter said the event is hosted in cooperation with the cities of La Porte and Deer Park and the Southeast Regional LEPC, and noted all 54 vendor spots were filled. "We encourage all of the community to come out...this may be our largest hurricane workshop and safety fair on record," Carter said.
Speakers encouraged residents to prepare for the June 1 start of hurricane season and attend the fair; no council action was required or taken regarding the event during the meeting.
