Pasadena school leaders and residents praise mayor and council for school partnerships

I want to say thank you, especially Mayor Wagner, for having the vision to see the need for a community education liaison," Harrison said.
Kenny Fernandez, president of the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees, and Diane (Dion) Powell, retiring superintendent of Pasadena ISD, described routine cooperation on student events, safety and disaster response. "There's never been a better partnership that has existed between the city and the school district," Powell said, listing joint responses to storms and other emergencies and noting city staff participation on the district's safety advisory.
Other school leaders — including Renika Lee, principal at Bondi Intermediate, and Andrew Eubanks, Bondi assistant principal — echoed the appreciation and urged continuity of the partnership under future city leadership. The speakers highlighted programs such as Fill the Bus, food drives and joint safety coordination that they said benefit students and families.
Council members received tokens and remarks from district officials; speakers framed the relationship as ongoing rather than tied to a single official. No formal council action was requested during these comments; the remarks were expressions of gratitude and a public record of the city–school collaboration.
The praise came during what multiple speakers referred to as Mayor Wagner's final council meeting; speakers thanked the mayor and wished him well as the city transitions to its next administration.
