Council approves $1.888 million contract for Boylston–Hammond intersection improvements

The Sandy Springs City Council on Tuesday approved a $1,888,300 construction contract to realign the Boylston Drive intersection with the Hammond Glen retirement community entrance and install a new traffic signal, drainage upgrades and streetscape improvements.
Public Works Director Marty Martin told council the city solicited bids for project T58‑1 and received six submissions; two were declared nonresponsive and the lowest responsive bid was from Acceler Construction LLC at $1,888,300, below the engineer’s estimate of $2,308,530. Staff recommended award to Acceler Construction after review of bids and references.
Councilmember Melissa Mueller moved the resolution to award the contract and Councilmember John Paulson seconded it. Council discussion focused on outreach to immediate stakeholders — including a dental office and the Hammond Glen community — to ensure client access and emergency vehicle coordination during construction. Martin said staff would continue proactive outreach and communications for the project.
The council approved the contract by voice vote. Martin said the city would continue community outreach during construction and did not identify additional funding needs beyond the contract award.
