Council committee moves Redmond 2050 zoning and code package toward June 17 vote

The Redmond City Council’s Planning and Public Works Committee on Tuesday sent the Redmond 2050 code package and related zoning changes to the full council for action at the June 17 meeting, and staff said municipal code updates related to the comprehensive plan will come back for study on June 24.
Committee Chair Council Member Stewart told the council the package includes the Redmond 2050/2025 zoning updates, 2025 housing amendments and the Downtown Redmond Center plan. The package implements zoning changes drafted during the Redmond 2050 process, including rules meant to expand housing choice and middle‑housing provisions.
Stewart said the ordinance amending the municipal code for utilities was also forwarded; that ordinance will address how sewer and water connections apply to middle‑housing and other changes required by the new zoning. The committee also advanced an ORCA contract renewal and an application for countywide center certification to the next consent agenda.
The committee chair and other council members described the work as the culmination of a multi‑year planning effort that included public input and Planning Commission review. Council Member Stewart said the city will also review several municipal code chapters to remove outdated provisions and streamline processes.
Council members and staff said large work items will appear on the June 17 agenda and related municipal code work will return for additional study the following week; council members encouraged residents to review draft chapters and participate in upcoming meetings.
