The Tahlequah City Council voted to adopt the city's proposed fiscal year 2025-26 budget and approved a companion resolution establishing budget amendment authority for the finance director.
Finance Director Michelle Collins told the council the proposed budget prioritizes essential services including public safety, infrastructure and community development while keeping operations in line with projected revenues. Collins said the budget complies with state municipal financial requirements and urged caution on using reserves absent revenue growth.
Councilors thanked department heads and finance staff for their work on a months-long budgeting process. At least three councilors recorded 'Yes' votes when the motion to adopt was called; the council then directed staff to finalize the budget for implementation on July 1.
Councilors noted ongoing risks such as inflation, personnel cost increases and volatility in sales tax receipts; staff said they would continue to monitor cash flow and report as needed. The resolution approved grants the finance director authority to make budget amendments within limits specified in the resolution.
The budget, department-level appropriations and the resolution are available on the city website for public review.
