Teachers praise PTO co-presidents at Francis Howell Middle School for volunteer support

During public comment at a meeting, a teacher at Francis Howell Middle School praised Cheryl Ranham and Carrie Ellis, co-presidents of the school’s parent-teacher organization (PTO), saying the pair have increased parent volunteerism and provided quarterly grants and reimbursements that help teachers buy classroom materials.

"Carrie and Cheryl are 2 of the most positive, uplifting people you will ever meet. They have been incredibly supportive of our school community and are truly advocates for our students, staff, and families at Francis Howell Middle School," the staff member said. The speaker described PTO grants that departments can apply for to buy items such as calculators, books and other teaching resources, and said individual teachers can submit reimbursements for purchases made for their classrooms.

The speaker said Ranham and Ellis have served the school for "the past few years" and have "transformed our PTO," bringing more parents back into the building and supporting teachers through fundraisers, snack cards and positive messages. The commenter added that the two volunteer despite holding regular daytime jobs and are frequently at the school before classes, during the day and after school.
