Warren Elementary staff recognize parent volunteers Melanie and Joe for years of service

A Warren Elementary staff member said Melanie and Joe, parent volunteers at Warren Elementary in the Francis Howell R-III district, were recognized by school staff for years of service and support to students and families.

School staff described the couple's long involvement: “So Melanie and Joe have had 2 children attend Warren Elementary. Their, youngest is in fifth grade right now, so they've been part of our community for many years. Melanie serves as the treasurer of our PTO, and Joe willingly helps support in numerous ways,” the staff member said.

The staff member said the pair regularly help at events and make sure students' basic needs are met. “They continuously come to help lend a hand. They are there to do whatever is needed for teachers, the school as a whole. You can see them cooking hot dogs, making popcorn, hanging decorations. They will be there for every kid to make sure no kid is left without school supplies, clothes on their back, or even food,” the staff member said.

Staff highlighted the couple's role preparing for the school's boosterathon, converting entryways to match themes such as an underwater scene or safari and building photo props. “1 of the biggest places where they are visible is in the decorations for our boosterathon. They are able to transform our school into whatever theme we have decided for our fun run,” the staff member said. The staff member added that the couple keeps a large collection of supplies at home: “They have so much stuff that they have done for our school that it takes up their entire basement.”

The staff member also described work for the school's Veterans Day ceremony: “Melanie spends countless of hours creating a flag using artwork and posters that come back from students. Joe will spend the whole morning running around trying to get different materials that we need.”

The staff member characterized the volunteers as humble and consistently helpful: “Melanie and Joe don't just help with events. They make the events extra special for our kids. They go above and beyond. They just are so quiet and humble in everything that they do, but their impact is immense in the way that they are able to contribute to our school.”

Closing the remarks, the staff member thanked the couple and noted their impact on the school community: “Melanie and Joe, thank you so much for all you've done for Warren.” The staff member added, “I just hope that, this recognition allows you to know just how deeply special you are and how much Warren Elementary is what it is because of you. You will be deeply missed, but your mark will continue forever.”
