Selectmen approve $41,465 contract for multiple intersection aprons

The Loudon Board of Selectmen on June 3 approved a $41,465 contract with Young's Estimating and Paving to install and overlay paved aprons at multiple town intersections.

The apron work covers Sanborn Road at Pittsfield Road, Gilmington Road at Loudon Ridge, Kennedy Road at Lower Ridge, and Mackenzie Road at Pearl Corner, Selectman Miller said when he moved to approve the contract.

The project was presented by Road Agent Russ Pearl, who described three existing aprons that need overlays and three new aprons where pavement meets dirt roads to help graders and reduce maintenance. Selectman Miller moved to approve Young's proposal; the motion was seconded by Selectman Griffin and carried by voice vote.

Road Agent Pearl said the work will create a 30–40 foot paved strip at trouble points "for the grader to stay out of the road and kind of a launch pad for the cars to take off from," and he asked the board to consider encumbering current-year funds to allow work this summer. He also said three companies submitted bids and that Young's had local experience.

The board asked that future proposals be circulated in advance so members can review them before signing. The motion authorizes the town to sign and initial the contract documents and proceed with Young's paving for the total amount of $41,465.

The board did not attach conditions to the approval beyond standard signature and contract-execution steps; Road Agent Pearl will follow up on scheduling and coordination with vendors.

Selectman Miller made the motion to approve; Selectman Griffin seconded. The board voted unanimously in favor.

The town will file the signed contract with the town office and proceed with scheduling the work for July or August if funds are encumbered as Road Agent Pearl indicated.
