Brockton School Committee approves consent agenda, facility fees and design plans; votes to enter executive session

The Brockton School Committee on Tuesday approved a package of routine items, accepted a subcommittee report on bids, approved a revised facilities rental agreement and moved forward multiple facility design plans — then voted to go into executive session to discuss collective bargaining and litigation.

Consent agenda details: The consent package included approval of finance subcommittee minutes (Dec. 3, 2024), approval of an out-of-state field trip for five students to the Empower Yourself Autonomous Drone National Championship in New Hampshire (item b), and acceptance of human-resources notifications including leaves, resignations and retirements (item c). Committee members discussed chaperone arrangements for the trip; staff said two female students would travel with parents and one male chaperone would accompany the other students.

Facilities and bids: Committee members discussed the facilities subcommittee work. Facilities Director Ken Thompson presented an updated rental-fee schedule and told members that fees had not been increased for decades. Committee members discussed competitiveness with surrounding communities and the district’s rising operating costs.
