County schedules June audit session to prepare volunteer agencies for first audit cycle

The county staff member said, “It’s really just an opportunity to educate you,” and that the county will email a formal invitation and a basic pre-questionnaire listing personnel, fiscal-year schedules and contact information.
Staff emphasized the county will pay audit fees and that the purpose of the meeting is to make the first audit “painless” and efficient. The staff member clarified that volunteer crews operating inside the two towns are not part of the county audit because those towns perform their own audits.
Commissioners asked whether existing outside audits or hired bookkeepers could satisfy the requirement; staff said those documents may help and that the auditor will coordinate with existing accountants to streamline the process. No formal vote was taken; staff scheduled the meeting and will follow up with invitations and the questionnaire.
