The Berkeley County Commission adopted an ordinance authorizing the issuance of $3,000,000 in series 2025-A bonds to support Phase 1 of the Inwood Park project and to match more than $3,000,000 in grant funding.
County staff and the building commission have already met in public to prepare financing steps, and the ordinance advances the project to the next administrative stage; officials said the bond proceeds will be used together with secured grants for the $6 million Phase 1 project.
Staff described the ordinance as a procedural step in a longer process that includes bond sale and final approvals. A county official said the building commission had met twice in public to facilitate the process and that Region 9 had been central to securing grant dollars and helping manage the project paperwork. One commissioner called the project "a $6,000,000 project for Phase 1" and noted it includes more than $3,000,000 in federal, state and other grant funds.
The commission voted in favor of adopting the ordinance and instructed staff to proceed with the next steps required before the bond sale and disbursement of funds. No contract awards for construction were made at the meeting; staff said pre-bid interest from contractors had been strong.
