Committee recommends 2.5% wage-scale increase for city and library staff starting July 1

The Marshfield Finance, Budget & Personnel Committee voted to recommend common council approval of Payroll Resolution No. 2025-17, which applies a 2.5% adjustment to the midpoint of each pay grade for nonrepresented city staff effective July 1, 2025.
The recommendation came during the committee’s June 3 meeting where Human Resources Director Sarah Dressel said Payroll Resolution No. 2025-17 "adjusts this by 2.5% effective on 07/01/2025," and that the change applies to pay-grade midpoints and then is calculated using step percentages. Dressel said the increase follows a compensation study completed in 2024 and budget decisions made during the council’s 2025 budget deliberations on Nov. 26, 2024.

Committee members pressed no substantive changes during the discussion. Dressel noted that the library board will consider the matter on June 19 and that the library’s schedule is on a different six‑month cadence: "We're actually on the opposite 6 months schedule from the city. So we do our scale increase at the beginning of the year and our cost of living increase in July," Library Director Jill Porter said. Porter said, however, she expects the library board to approve extending the same 2.5% increase to library staff, subject to committee and council approval.
The committee made a motion to recommend council approval, the motion was seconded and the committee voted in favor.
Ending: If the common council approves Payroll Resolution No. 2025-17, the wage-scale adjustments would take effect July 1, 2025; the library’s adoption remains subject to its board action on June 19 and formal council approval as described by staff.
