San Angelo council adopts amendment to replenish equipment replacement fund after police vehicle purchase
Summary
Council approved a budget amendment moving $377,000 from vehicle maintenance fund balance into the equipment replacement fund to cover a current-year police vehicle purchase and avoid an imminent price increase.
The San Angelo City Council approved on first reading a budget amendment to replenish the equipment replacement fund after the city used current-year funds to purchase police vehicles.
Tina Dierski, the city’s director of finance, told the council the amendment would move $377,000 from the vehicle maintenance fund balance into the equipment replacement fund to reimburse those funds and avoid an imminent price increase on vehicles. "This budget amendment is to pull some funds out of the vehicle maintenance fund balance to pay for police vehicles to avoid a price increase that was coming up if we didn't meet the deadline," Dierski said.
Councilmember Tommy made the motion to approve; the motion was seconded by Harry. With no public comment on the item, the council voted and recorded a 6–0 vote to approve on first reading.
Why it matters: The amendment reimburses an internal fund used to purchase police vehicles and preserves the equipment replacement fund balance in the current fiscal year.
