Residents press select board for quicker resolution to Moonbrook culvert easement dispute

Jacob Carringer and Ally Wenzel, residents of Rutland Town, asked the select board at the June 3 meeting to move forward on a draft easement deed and settlement agreement with the town concerning the Moonbrook culvert.
Carringer told the board, “we are here tonight, to try to get resolution or to move forward resolution, of the easement deed and settlement agreement between the town and us regarding the Moonbrook Culvert.” He said the couple’s attorney had submitted what they understood to be a final draft earlier in the year and that the matter had stalled over technical language in the easement deed.
Town Administrator Bill Sweet told the speakers he would add the matter to his list and contact town counsel Kevin Brown, who the residents had been working with via counsel. Sweet acknowledged the delay: “you folks have waited long enough, and the town’s waited long enough too.” The residents said they had been waiting about three years and were seeking to “close that chapter.”
No vote or formal action was taken at the meeting. The select board directed staff to note the request in the minutes and have the administrator contact town counsel to seek the necessary approvals so the parties can finalize the deed and settlement agreement.
