The Aldridge City Council voted to award the bid for the 345 kV subtransmission-line rebuild project after staff opened three bids and recommended the lowest responsible bidder.
Jess Olsen, presenting, told the council the engineering estimate for the project was about $3.1 million and said the low bid from a local firm (IES) came in significantly lower. “We plan to bid for that 3451. We ended up with 3 bids,” Olsen said, adding that the low bid was below the estimate and appeared competitive.
Councilmembers asked no substantive follow-up questions during the presentation and moved to award the contract; the motion carried. Staff said they would proceed with contracting procedures and move to financing and scheduling steps.
At a later point in the meeting council discussion, staff said they will bring financing for the subtransmission-line upgrade to a future meeting and are working with a local bank to finalize rates and buy-downs before borrowing.
No construction activity was started at the meeting; the council’s vote authorized staff to proceed with award and contract execution consistent with procurement rules.
