The City of Green Bay Personnel Committee voted unanimously June 3 to reclassify a 50% part-time court position to a 75% position and to approve filling the vacancy resulting from a retirement.
Staff and a presiding judge described the change as intended to provide more scheduling flexibility and a fairer distribution of duties between employees. “She is a young child at home, gets done with school, she could leave a little bit early, she shows up a little bit earlier,” a judge explained while describing why increasing the part-time position to 0.75 FTE would help balance workloads. Committee members discussed whether the change would affect benefits; a human-resources representative said, “The benefits would be prorated based on the full time equivalency.”
Committee members noted the reclassification would keep the department’s overall staffing level effectively the same while reducing workload pressure on a longer-tenured employee. Staff estimated a modest cost savings to the city from the reclassification; a figure cited in the meeting was approximately $3,020.21 in savings, though no detailed budget worksheet was presented during discussion.
The committee moved and approved the reclassification and authorized staff to proceed with recruitment for the 0.75 FTE position.
