County commissioner visits West Miami; announces mom-and-pop small-business program and summer-camp vouchers

Natalia Miliano Orbis, a county commissioner and former West Miami vice mayor, visited the City Commission meeting on June 4 and told commissioners and residents she is available to work with the city on local initiatives.
During brief remarks the commissioner announced that her office has opened applications for a mom-and-pop small-business program; applications are being accepted through Friday the 13th, and paper drop-offs are accepted through June 23 at the county office at 1000 Southwest 50 Seventh Avenue. She asked the city to share the flyer and said her office is available for questions. She also said her office is sponsoring vouchers for the city’s summer camp and will sponsor the city’s July event.
Separately, City Manager Matthews reported the city’s farmers market kickoff last Saturday included more than 25 vendors, arts and crafts and live music; staff intend to seek commission approval to run the market monthly from September through April. Matthews also announced a Father’s Day car-show event set for Saturday, June 14, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Cooper Park.
The commissioner and the commission exchanged pleasantries; she expressed appreciation for the welcome and emphasized a desire to collaborate with city staff and commissioners on local programs.
No formal action was required for the announcements; the items were presented as reports and invitations for city staff to coordinate with the commissioner’s office.
