But, from the age of 5 until this year, I've been at every single Little League World Series. I'm a volunteer," Representative Flick said, adding that the tournament involves international participation and engages millions of youth.
She noted that 80 countries participate in preliminary play and that the World Series field narrows to 20 teams — 10 American and 10 international — in August. "There are over 2,000,000 kids that participate, 2 and a half million kids," Flick said.
The committee accepted the resolution without debate. Committee staff said the resolution would be "reported as committed," and the chair indicated unanimous support; no roll call was recorded.
Representative Flick thanked colleagues and noted an upcoming meeting with the ambassador of Taiwan, who traditionally attends the series.
The resolution is a ceremonial designation recognizing the event and encouraging support for youth sports.
