The Parks Board on June 4 approved three agreements with the South Puget Sound Disc Golf Association to establish a new disc golf course at Recuyo Park and to outline design, construction and maintenance responsibilities.
Jenny Wilson, parks planner, told the board the agreements break the project into three parts: a design‑finalization phase with temporary baskets (a testing phase), a construction agreement to be signed after final design, and an ongoing maintenance agreement. The construction agreement will be activated once the testing and final design phases finish; the maintenance agreement includes in‑kind compensation in the form of 12 days of free facility use for the club.
“At this point the initial phase is going to be temporary baskets,” Wilson said. “It may last 8 to 12 months with temporary baskets, allowing for some adjustments and feedback from the community.”
The agreements create a reimbursement framework for materials the club will purchase for the testing and construction phases; staff said the city will approve course location and final design elements before permanent installation. Wilson noted the Recuyo course is intended to be a long‑term work in progress and that Woodland Creek Park’s existing junior course will remain in place.
Board members moved and seconded approval and voted unanimously in favor. The city will sign the design‑finalization and maintenance agreements now; the construction agreement will be held and executed once design finalization is complete.
Ending: Staff said they will coordinate construction timing with the Recuyo Park construction schedule so that club installation work begins when park access is available and safe for crews.
