District staff said T‑Mobile will donate phones, but the district is responsible for service costs tied to those phones. "We would also have to pay for the services that are attached to the phones," said Dr. Burishadeh. Staff estimated a potential one-time or short-term funding range of $5,000 to $7,000 to cover service costs but said the final number depends on how many phones are needed and the monthly cost per line.
Trustees asked whether the board should set a dollar cap before approving the MOU; staff said the district must first know how many phones are required and then calculate ongoing monthly charges. The board approved the MOU in a roll-call vote; Board Member Foster recorded an abstention, and the motion passed.
