Kent OKs Purchase of Clark Lake Parcel, Senior‑center Security Upgrade, Furniture Procurement and Ball‑field Lighting Contract

The Kent City Council on June 3 approved several parks and facilities items: acquisition of a parcel at Clark Lake Park from King County for $114,350; a security camera and access control upgrade at the Kent Senior Center; authorization to purchase office furniture through a cooperative purchasing agreement; and replacement of ball‑field lighting at Art Wright Field using a cooperative procurement.
Brian Higgins, parks capital project manager, said the parcel near Clark Lake is about 12,000 square feet and was originally part of a late‑1990s interlocal property transaction with King County Roads. The county and city had agreed to split acquisition costs, but the county’s transfer and reimbursement did not occur; King County Roads is now prepared to transfer the parcel, with the city paying half the original purchase price ($114,350). The council authorized the mayor to sign documents subject to final terms acceptable to the parks director and city attorney.
Parks staff also presented a security upgrade at the Kent Senior Center. Tona Cowe said the project will install 17 cameras and access control on 10 doors with badge readers and electric strikes, upgrading an end‑of‑life Ricoh surveillance system; equipment and installation costs were not to exceed $144,281.55. The council authorized execution of a public‑works agreement with Evergreen Technologies, subject to usual final‑terms review.
The council authorized continuing purchases of office furniture and related services through a cooperative purchasing agreement with the Hahn Company LLC via Omnia Partners (Region 4 Education Service Center lead), noting the cooperative is in effect through Dec. 31, 2027 with possible extensions.
Parks staff also presented a contract to replace field lighting at Art Wright Field with LED fixtures through a cooperative purchasing agreement with Musco Sports Lighting LLC. Staff said the current lighting system last had a full replacement in the late 1990s; the project upgrades to LED to save energy and reduce light spill.
All four items were moved, seconded and approved by council vote.
