Council Approves SKIP 2026 Work Plan and $500K Operating Budget for South King Housing Partnership

The Kent City Council on June 3 approved the South King Housing and Homelessness Partners (SKIP) 2026 work plan and operating budget as adopted by the SCIP executive board on May 16.
Marina Hansen presented the plan on behalf of SKIP staff, noting the consortium includes 12 member jurisdictions plus King County and focuses on affordable housing funding, preservation and policy work. The operating budget is just over $500,000, with more than half of that amount for salaries and benefits, Hansen said. Member contributions are allocated based on population and will rise by a 15% member contribution increase that phases out next year.
Hansen said the work plan development involved an executive board, a staff work group and an advisory committee, including surveys and in‑person meetings. Kent is one of the larger member cities and therefore is among the higher contributors to the SKIP budget. Councilmember Michaud moved approval; the motion passed unanimously.
